The commission's brief was to have connections with the music of Rachmaninoff and, in particular, his Trio Elegiaque No.1. A four-note motif taken from the Trio is utilised extensively in this Phantasy. The performance is by the composer, taken from a live broadcast on 3MBS-FM (Melbourne, Australia) on 24 November, 2021.
